Explorer Map No 300 - Howardian Hills and Malton
A delightful "four seasons" walk.
The route is very straightforward to follow, using clearly marked footpaths,
- including a section of the Centenary Way.
Unfortunately, a couple of sections of road are used, and as these tend
to be busy care must be taken when walking along them.
There are no gradients that should cause any great problems.

Start from the Bulmer village (SE69816 67588).
Walk to the East end of the village, and after the sharp bend take the
waymarked footpath to Brandreth Wood. Using your OS map to help follow
field patterns, this footpath takes you to The Stray at SE71133 69125.
Head North along the road (CARE, traffic) to the Gate House, pass through
the Gate House archway and take the road immediately past here that heads
East. This road takes very little traffic.
Join the signposted Centenary Way at SE72278 69270, and head South to
the woods at East Moor Banks. Immediately on entering the woods head East
South East along the Centenary Way.
Follow the waymarked route round Chanting Hill to cross the A64 road (CARE,
fast traffic) just outside Crambeck village, Enter Crambeck village along
the road.
Where the footpath sign indicates the Centenary Way path at SE73708 67275
follow the path South above the railway line.
The path then descends, but continues to follow alongside the railway
line.
At Kirkham Priory station the footpath crosses the railway line by the
clearly indicated stile. Follow the path to Kirkham Priory Bridge (SE73333
65795) and Kirkham Priory.
Return West along the road to the A64 by Whitwell-on-the-Hill.
Take the "main" street West in Whitwell-on-the-Hill, and at
the end take the way marked footpath North West to Whitwell Grange and
the road that heads North to the Monument and Castle Howard.
Just past the Monument, follow the clearly waymarked footpath signs to
enter Bulmer Hag Wood and follow the footpath all the way back to Bulmer.
The footpath is waymarked, but differs slightly from the route shown on
the OS map.
