Outddor Leisure Maps No 19 and 30- Howgill Fells / Yorkshire
Dales.
A circular walk that in summertime
would provide some stunning views of the Dales, and fells, - with views
over to Ingleborough and Whernside. In wintertime a rewarding walk,
nonetheless, though it is essential to have maps and compasses up on
Abbotside Common. In poor weather, tis area has the potential for being
quite dangerous, - with sink holes, old quarry workings, and a very
steep drop in parts.

Exit Hawes via the High Street, taking the footpath down to the River
Ure, then following the footpath East along the river to Haylands Bridge.
Cross the River Ure, then follow the Pennine Way footpath to Hardraw.
At Hardraw, a detour to Hardraw Force is recommended.
Take the footpath NE out of Hardraw to Low Shaw, and continue up to
the ridge and spoil heaps. Follow the footpath NW on this ridge, past
further quarry workings, to the Buttertubs Road.
Head up the Buttertubs Road in a Northerly direction, until the footpath
sign indicating a Bridleway to Sedbusk.
Using the map and compass, follow the route as indicated on
the map. This route becomes indistinct after a few hundred yards, and
it is essential to use the map and compass to find your way down.
From Sedbusk, follow the footpath back to Hawes.
