Explorer Map No OL26- North York Moors Western Area
Another four seasons walk, with no particularly taxing
ascents.
However, the descent from the Hanging Stone to reach Hutton Village
is extremely steep in places. When the ground is wet, this makes it
very slippery and great care is nedded.
The forestry commission tracks used for the walk can become very muddy
in wet weather, or after wet weather.

Start from the long stay car park in Guisborough, NZ6121815642.
Take the footpath from Guisborough Priory that crosses the field to
the Whitby Road near Gisborough Hall. Turn left along the road, and
after a few yards take the footpath on the opposite side of the road
that is marked "Cleveland Street". Continue along this footpath
to the A171 at NZ6327715957.
At this point, take the farm track that heads due South and follow this
uphill until the point where the Cleveland Way is signposted on your
right, heading in a Westerly direction.
Follow the waymarked Cleveland Way all the way to High Cliff Nab at
NZ6103113843.
From High Cliff Nab, follow the Cleveland Way West to where it leaves
Hutton Low Cross woods for Newton Moor. Here continue along the track
in a North Westerly direction for a hundred yards or so until you meet
the footpath to the Hanging Stone at NZ5890813007.
Follow the footpath to the Hanging Stone at NZ5914713439.
From here, continue along the footpath almost due North (initially a
VERY steep descent) until you meet the Forestry track that is almost
at the edge of Hutton Low Cross Woods. Here, turn right until you eventually
exit the woods and follow a path to the minor road into Hutton village
(NZ5968114219).
Here, take the footpath immediately opposite that then leads you back
to Guisborough.
