A circular walk taking in the River
Tees between Barnard Csatle and Whorlton.
Most sections appeared to be well drained, so the walk should be possible
all year round.
The walk will be extremely attractive in the Spring and Summer time,
but even in March the walk gave immense pleasure, - especially with
the River Tees churning through the narrow limestone gorge south of
Abbey Bridge.

Starting from the centre of Barnard
Castle, walk down by the public footpath to first cross the River Tees
by the Tees Aquaduct Bridge (footpath only). Turn left and walk along
the B6277.
Pass the County Road Bridge (do not cross), and continue until you see
the footpath sign about 200 yards past.
Follow the well marked footpaths along the South Bank of the River Tees,
- now part of the Teesdale Way, all the way to Whorlton Lido.
Cross the River Tees using Whorlton Road Bridge.
Return to Barnard Castle along the well marked footpath on the North
Bank of the River Tees.
