Outdoor Leisure Map No 27 - North York Moors Eastern Area

This walk is basically the one shown as Walk No 26 in the book "On Foot in the North York Moors" by Alan Hall. Curiously, though, Alan Hall ascribes the walk as being 11 miles, and "moderate to difficult". We only managed to get the walk up to 10 miles by walking to Goathland station, and found the walk to be no more than moderate.
Almost all of the walking is on well defined tracks and footpaths, with maybe about a quarter of the walk on the old rail bed.
We found the walk to be quite delightful, - one of our most enjoyable walks.

The walk starts from the car park in Goathland (£1-50p for the day), - NZ83350133.
Walk West through the village to the Mallyan Spout Hotel, and take the footpath leading down to the waterfall.
From the waterfall, take the footpath North along the West Beck to Incline Cottage.
Continue North along the old track bed, until - in some woods, there is a path leading off on the left with "Egton" marked on the gate. Follow this woodland path to the ruins of Murk Cottage at NZ81740263.
Continue on the footpath through the woods until you meet the minor road. Turn tight, and walk to the second signed footpath on your right at NZ81050307. The gate at this point is set back from the road.
Follow the footpath to the next minor road, and turn right to High Burrows Farm.
Just before this farm, there is a footpath on your left leading to Low Hollins Farm.
From Low Hollins Farm follow the road and paths to Egton Bridge.
Just by the Catholic Church, NZ80420527, is a track (Barnard's Road) leading to Grosmont.
In Grosmont, take the "Rail Trail" that starts just over the level crossing and follow this back to Goathland.
