Explorer Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)

This is a short walk (about 4 miles) but there is plenty of enjoyable scenery and interest to make it worthwhile.
The walk starts in a small park in Great Ayton before walking through the main street of the village itself.
From here there is a footpath that leads up to Cliff Ridge Woods. From the woods, the route takes you past Gribdale Gate and Little Ayton, before returning you to Waterfals Park in Great Ayton.

A map of the route followed has been plotted on the Ordnace Survey mapping website, By selecting the ink below you will be taken to this map, - complete with distances and heights marked on the route.

The start of the walk is from the road beside the River Leven in Great Ayton, where there is a small park (NZ555 106).
Walk East through Great Ayton and take the left fork at the road junction.
At NZ523 108 a footpath leads you in a North easterly direction towards Cliff Ridge Woods. The footpath crosses the railway line before you reach the woods.
Turn right in the woodland.
At the exit of the woods, the footpath is on the other side of the fence, reached by a metal gate. Do NOT take what appears to be a footpath across the field, ahead of you.
The footpath descends to a road after crossing a stile. Turn right and follow the road to Gribdale Gate.
Cross over the road and continue along the lane until you reach Fletchers Farm and Coffee Shop (this is a busy farm shop).
Continue along the road until you come to the road junction at Little Ayton.
Turn right and after about 200 yards there is a footpath on your left that returns you to Great Ayton.
