Where the promenade ended there was a shingle beach with a scattering of folks, - most of whom appeared to be looking for sea glass. Many years ago glass making was a local industry and the waste was just tipped into the sea. Nowadays little fragments of sea-eroded glass are collected to make ornaments or decorations.
