The Grey Panthers

This is a "there-and-back" walk. In this cast the outward leg involved a walk along the beach from Saltburn to Redcar (no map needed).
The return leg involved a walk along Redcar's promenade (or beach if required) to the point where the promenade meets the coastal footpath that runs parallel to, and above,the beach.
In Marske the route the heads Northwards from St. Germain's churchyard until you meet the footpath to Windy Hill Farm.
The footpath from this farm to Saltburn is clearly marked.
However, in order to reach Saltburn itself, there is a very steep drop down stone steps to reach a wooded valley.
Depending on the state of the tide, the route to / from Redcar may be tackled in a reverse order.

Start from the promenade on top of the cliffs above the pier in Saltburn (NZ66517 21658). Plenty of parking available.
(There is, of course, a car park not far from Saltburn's pier which won't involve the climb down to, and back from, the pier.)
Walk down the steps to the pier (or take the tramway in season).
Head along the beach towards Marske and Redcar.
Continue in Redcar, along the promenade to reach the vertical pier.
To return, continue along Redcar's promenade until you reach the grassy area above the beach. Follow the footpath until you reach Cliff House in Marske.
Here turn right, and walk a few yards to find a footpath (through a row of cottages) on your left.
Continue along the footpath to emerge at a broad street that leads down to the beach.
On your right, as you head towards the beach, is a footpath that takes you up to a green area in front of "The Headlands" housing. Continue to St. Germain's church, and cross the churchyard to St. Germain's Lane. Turn right and continue up the road until you come to Windy Hill Lane on your left.
Continue past Windy Hill Farm and take the clearly marked footpath to return to Saltburn (several stiles to cross).
