The footpath from Richmond's centre to Easy Abbey passes the Drummer Boy's Stone (which you can just about make out in this view). Allegedly a tunnel connected Richmond's Market Place with Easby Abbey and a Drummer Boy was sent down the tunnel to trace the route of the tunnel. The stone marks the spot at which the sound of his drumming ceased to be heard above ground. If you believe that one, you will believe anything!
