This walk is described in the book "Walking in the Hambleton Hills" by Keven Shevels (published by Trail Guides).
A full description is provided in the above book, informing the reader not only of the route but also of the historical artefacts that may be seen beside the route.
The route description, below, is provided to let persons follow the track / footpath, but for a guide as to what can be seen along the way the above mentioned book should be referred to.
The route is very easy to navigate. There is a steep climb at the start of the walk, and a steep descent on returning.
It is recommended that this walk be reserved for a day when there is fine weather with high visibility.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site, - just use QUO!!

Start from the car park beside the church in Kepwick (SE46754 90866).
Head Eastwards along the main street. At the road junction, continue straight ahead on the minor road ("Not Suitable for Motors").
This road leads up the bank to Arden Great Moor. The ascent is moderately steep in places, but at least there is a firm surface all the way.
As you leave the woodland there is farm gate, beside which is a large stone block where the request to close the gate is carved.
Continue uphill until you come to the stone wall and gate that opens onto the track that runs North-South as part of the Cleveland Way footpath. Turn left and head Northwards along the track.
Where the track turns fairly sharp left at White Gill Head, take the shooters' track that heads Northwards at this point.
Now simply follow this shooters' track round Great Arden Moor. Ignore any tracks that leave the main track and head downhill.
At SE512 915 the track bears sharp right.
The track re-joins the Cleveland Way footpath at SE491 923.
Now turn left and follow the Cleveland Way back to the gate that opens onto the road back to Kepwick.
Retrace your steps down the bank to the car park in Kepwick.
