Explorer Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)

A route that has been well trodden, and deservedly so. The route can be used year round.
Today, however, the route was chosen as our cars were parked at "low level", where there wasn't too much of a problem with snow or ice on the road, but the walk took us up to the moors above Osmotherley wehere there was PLENTY of snow and ice.
Although we parked near the Ingleby Cross, this isn't to be recommended. The local residents seem to regard the area in front of their houses as their own private property, and weren't over-polite in asking us to move. Better, maybe, to park in the lay-by in front of the nearby church. (NZ 452 003).
Another potential difficulty is in finding the footpath from the Forestry track up to Scarth Wood Moor. Miss the correct path and you will have a bit of a struggle up a steep slope and though dense undergrowth.
