At Bonfield Ghyll, the nearby farm (dating back to the 18th Century) has never had mains electricity. In 2007, this Archimedes Screw was installed to take water from the ghyll (beck) to generate electricity. Up to 1 Kw per hour can be generated and stored in a battery, for use by the farm.
