Causey Arch, - the oldest railway bridge in the world. The bridge was built in 1725-1726, using Roman technology, to enable the wooden rail tracks to cross the Causey Burn, 85 feet below. The stone mason, Ralph Wood, who built the bridge was so convinced that the bridge would fail that he committed suicide by jumping off the bridge.
