Heading West out of Rookhope, you pass the "Rookhope Arch". This lone arch used to be one of six that carried a horizontal stone flue from lead smelting hearths over the river and road, before continuing up a tunnel in the hillside before emerging as a chimney stack a mile and a half away on the high moors.
