Explorer Map 299 - Ripon & Boroughbridge

Circular walk, starting from the National Trust car park at Fountains Abbey (SE272687).
The walk is a mixture of farmland footpaths, minor country roads, and the paths and tracks through Studley Royal Park. No particular problems, though in winter the paths can be a bit muddy.
Note : Admission charge if entering National Trust property.

Start Point : National Trust car park at Fountains Abbey.
Take the footpath to the obelisk at the entry to Studley Royal.
From here, continue along the footpaths / roadway to the village of Studley Roger.
Continue along the footpath in an East-North-East direction to where another footpath crosses (SE29557050) and immediately turn South East to Hell Wath Cottage.
Past the cottage, turn left into the country lane to eventually join the Ripon Rowel Walk to Markenfield Hall.
Continue South on the Ripon Rowel Walk to Straight Lane, when you turn North West to eventually find the footpath to Whitcliffe Lane.
Here, turn North East to rejoin the Ripon Rowel Walk.
Continue on the Ripon Rowel Walk to enter Studley Royal, and find yourself at the Lake.
At the Lake you can enter the National Trust property and walk through the grounds of Fountains Abbey, or return to the car park via the obelisk.
