Explorer Map No OL26- North York Moors Western Area

A highly delightful walk, where you have some superb views on a day when there is good visibility.
Even under wet conditions, the walk proved to be highly enjoyable.
There is a moderately steep pull out of Kirby Knowle up Birk Bank, but the only really significant ascent is from Boltby up to High Barn.
However, the track is moderate, so the climb uphill is less severe than might otherwise be.
From High Barn, it's effectively flat or downhill for the rest of the way.
Navigation is very straightforward, with all paths being clear and well waymarked.

Park in Kirby Knowle outside what appears to be a derelict village hall (SE46975 87353).
Take the footpath (signposted) South East up Birk Bank to Storth Wood.
There is a sharp left bend in Storth Wood. Continue until you come to a rest bench, which overlooks the signposted footpath down to Boltby.
In Boltby head East aong the road until you come to the footpath that heads across fields, almost due East, towards High Barn. The path up to High Barn is a zig-zag track.
At High Barn, join the Cleveland Way footpath and head North to Sneck Yate Bank.
Where the track meets the minor access road, turn right and head for the track that starts at the car park at Sneck Yate.
Continue along the track to Boltby Forest and Steeple Cross.
Continue past Steeple Cross until you come to the footpath on your left that heads downhill, over moorland, to Kepwick.
However, when you come to the footpath cross-roads, continue straight ahead (rather than turn right to Kepwick).
Continue in a South Westerly direction along waymarked footpaths until you arrive at Brickshed Cottage.
Here, turn left on the minor road and continue all the way back to Kirby Knowle.
