Explorer Map No OL27 - North York Moors Eastern Area
An all-seasons walk, with "something of everything".
Setting out from the popular seaside village of Robin Hood's Bay,
the walk utilises an old railway track bed, farm tracks, moorland
footpaths, and the Cleveland Way footpath.
              Navigation is basically very starightforward.
There are no particularly difficult sections, though on the coastal
Cleveland Way footpath there are some moderately steep ascents and
              descents.
At Boggle Hole you can walk to the village of Robin Hood's Bay along
the beach, BUT you need to be sure that the tide allows this. Otherwise,
the cliff top footpath must be used.
There are some spectacular views along the way, and the walk is
thoroughly enjoyable from this point of view.

(Overlay made with Version 4 of Memory Map)
Some new mapping software is now availabe which you
may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for
free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having
installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus
YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the
Grey Panthers website, - just use QUO!!

Start from the main car park at the top of Robin Hood's
Bay village NZ95032 05487). There is a fee to pay.
From the car park head Westwards to the old station building, and
then along the road following signs to the "Railway Walkway".

Follow the railway track bed for about 2 miles, until you pass the
Old Station Master's house on your right. Just past this is the remains
of an old station platform. At NZ944 029 a trcak leaves the old railway
track bed (which continues to pass underneath a road). Turn right
at this point and walk a short distance along the minor road. Where
the road bends sharp right (by a Guest House) a footpath leads straight
ahead over a small paddock and then across some pasture land to cross
abeck by a footbridge. Stone steps lead you up a bank to a minor road.
Turn right along the minor road and walk to Colcroft Farm.
From Colcroft Farm take the farm tracks to Spring Hill, and then to
            Cook House.
The finger posts directing you to Cook House indicate "The Ranch",
            rather than Cook House.
From Cook House follow the moorland footpath eastwards over Stony
Marl Moor. The path is quite clear and easy to follow. Head towards
            the telephone mast.
Once at the telephone mast, take the footpath beside the stone wall
            that heads almost due North.
THis path then turns sharp right to descend quite steeply towards
a minor road. Follow the minor road towards Ravenscar.
After about 200 - 300 yards a footpath sign directs you down a track
to join the signposted Cleveland Way footpath.
Follow the Cleveland Way footpath, - clearly signposted and easy to
follow, all the way back to Robin Hood's Bay village.
