Explorer Map OL30, - Yorkshire Dales (Northern & Central
            Areas)
Although this walk travels along Fremington Edge which
is about 250 metres above Reeth and Arkengarthdale below, the ascent
is relatively gentle. Although the descent is somewhat steeper, there
is no undue difficulty with this either.
The views from Fremington Edge take in great vistas of Swaledale and
Arkengarthdale, and you have clear views down to both Reeth and Grinton.
The path up to Fremingtom Edge uses the Coast to Coast footpath between
Reeth and Marrick. The return from Fremington Edge is through Arkengarthdale
            to Reeth.
After wet weather, there are boggy patches up on the Edge. Also, in
Arkengarthdale the Arkle Beck can flood and cause a few problems in
this respect. However, this is unusual.

Start from centre of Reeth village, Walk downhill towards
the road bridge over the River Swale, and cross the bridge (taking
            care of traffic).
Turn right along the road, and after a few yards there is a footpath
on your right that takes you across meadowland to Grinton Bridge.
Cross the road at Grinton Bridge, and take the footpath beside the
River Swale that leads towards Marrick Abbey.
When you reach the minor road, continue along the road to the Abbey.
Just past the Abbey the footpath to Marrick is signposted, - leading
            uphill through Step Wood.
Once in Marrick, take the road left and continue along the road until
            you come to a T-junction.
Ahead of you at this junction is the track that leads to Fremington
            Edge.
Continue in a North Westerly direction along Fremington Edge until
the track passes through a gate after about 3 miles.
now follow the footpath markers to descend to Storthwaite Hall in
            Arkengarthdale.
When you reach Storthwaite Hall, - a cottage covered in flowers, turn
left and follow the marked footpath back to Reeth,
There are a few alternative paths that can be taken to Reeth, but
the one used in the Memory Map overlay (see above) is the path that
keeps close to the Arkle Beck all the way.
