Before long the path passes between the remains of the Lands Viaduct. An absolutely amazing structure. In order to carry the Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle railway line over both the Haggerleases Branch and the River Gaunless, a viaduct was constructed and opened in 1863. The remains of one of the supports is seen in the centre.
