Expolorer Map OL26, - North York Moors (West)
A walk that takes in sections of the Cleveland Way as it
follows the coast, together with some road walking and walking using farm
        footpaths.
There are one or two gradients, but nothing to get too worried by.
Navigation is fairly straightforward, though there WAS one section where
we strayed 45 degrees off course and had to put in an extra 3/4 mile on
account of needing to retrace our steps. There was evidence of other people
having done exactly the same (needing to cross a wire fence to correct
        the problem).
Otherwise, though, this was a delightful walk which can be done at any
time of the year. Fine weather, and good visibility, are added bonuses
if they happen to be the conditions at the time.

Start from Staithes Car Park, NZ78155 18560. (Charge for
        use of the car park).
Walk down into Staithes, - either down the main street or by using the
footpath across the top of Staithes. Make for the Cod and Lobster public
        house on the harbour front.
Turn right at the Cod and Lobster to walk up Chapel Street and on to the
signposted Cleveland Way. Follow the Cleveland Way markers all the way
        to Port Mulgrave.
From Port Mulgrave, follow the way marks in the direction of Runswick
        Bay.
As the Cleveland Way approaches Runswick Bay, do not descend into Runswick
Bay but instead turn right to walk along the road (Runswick Lane) to Hinderwell.
There is a good footpath along the length of Runswick Lane.
Turn right on the main road in Hinderwell (by the War Memorial) and follow
it through Hinderwell in the direction of Staithes. Follow the road until
you come to St. Hilda's Church at the top end of the village.
Go down the street opposite the road lrading to the Church, and you will
see a footpath sign on your left.
Take this signposted footpath towards Borrowby Dale.
The footpath crosses Dales Beck by a footbridge.
Soon after crossing the footbridge, take the waymarked footpath on the
right heading to Dalehouse. You need to climb up a wooded bank to reach
        this footpath.
Follow the footpath through woodland to Dalehouse.
At dalehouse, take the road West to cross the ford over the Roxby Beck.
About 100 yards past the ford, up the hill, is a lane on your right with
a sign requesting you to keep to the footpath and keep dogs on a lead
        (this is pheasant shooting country).
Follow the lane Westwards for about 3/4 mile. In a clearing there are
some benches used by the pheasant shooting parties. By these benches is
a waymarked footpath that leads to the Boulby Mine railway line.
Cross the railway line (care, - trains DO use it!), and immediately turn
right to follow the footpath to Ings Farm.
On this footpath, - which is quite faint in places, you enter some woodland
and cross a beck before ascending again. Make sure that you continue heading
North West towards Ings Farm, and do NOT take the apparent footpath North,
        where there is a stile.
This is the one part of the walk where you can go seriously off-course.
Cross the A174 by Ings Farm, and take the waymarked footpath North to
        Boulby Bank.
Way marks then direct you to Boulby Barns Farm and the Cleveland Way,
along which you return to Staithes.
