Explorer Map OL27, - North York Moors (East)
A walk for everybody, that can be undertaken at any time
        of the year.
The real value of the walk is in the stupendous views from Levisham Moor
down to the Hole of Horcum, and if you can do the walk on a sunny day
with clear visibility you will be doubly rewarded.
There are some very steep descents and ascents, which you need to be aware
        of.
There are also a couple of places where navigation requires a bit of attention,
with use of a map. You may not actually get lost, but the walk may take
        just that bit longer!

Start from Lockton village centre, just past the Youth
Hostel (SE84290 89866). There is not much space for car parking in the
village, so please be considerate to the residents.
Head West along the street and at the cross roads continue in the same
direction. At the end of the street is a footpath.
Follow the footpath for a short distance, and as soon as you descend some
steps (there is a rest bench at this point), continue to descend by the
faint footpath rather than by following the very obvious and broad footpath
        which continues West.
The downward footpath takes you into the valley, where it meets the minor
road, by Levisham Mill Farm. Follow the road towards Levisham for a short
distance, and at the bend take the signposted footpath up the slope to
Levisham. (You could continue along the road, but this is not advisable
as it is narrow and twisting and carries traffic).
Walk North up Levisham's broad main street, and past the public house
take the right branch to walk along Limpsey Gate Lane.
This Lane continues along a broad, extremely well defined, track across
Levisham Moor to Saltergate Bank, above the Hole of Horcum.
Continue along the footpath beside the main road for a short distance.
Before you reach the car park, cross the main road to take the metalled
farm road known as Old Wife's Way.
The metalled road of Old Wife's Way continues as a broad grassy track,
and is signposted as leading to the Bridestones.
However, at SE87687 91499, the path splits. Do NOT take the broad path
that continues straight ahead, but branch right along the narrow path
that leads you to the High Bridestones. To get to the High Bridestones,
drop down to cross the beck and then climb up again.
From the High Bridestones, take the very well defined path South South
West that takes you into Dove Dale.
At the Southern end of Dove Dale, turn right onto the track that takes
you past Low Staindale Farm and on to Low Pasture Farm.
At Low Pasture Farm the footpath is NOT as as the map. Just past the first
set of farm buildings take a broad track left, and at the gate at the
end of this track cross over the field to where there is a stile in the
corner. Cross this stile and then cross the next field to a prominent
        ladder stile.
Once over this stile, you are on a concrete farm track. Turn left abd
follow the track until you come to some farm buildings. Just past these
buildings is a waymarked footpath into Green Dale.
Follow this path, which soon turns into a broad track, which leads you
        staright back to Lockton village.
