Outdoor Leisure Map No OL31 - North Pennines, Teesdale & Weardale

Possibly best done in dry weather between about May (when
the bluebells are out) and September.
When we did the walk, conditions were VERY wet and slippery underfoot
after rainfall the previous few days.
The route is fairly straightforward to follow, providing you use your
map and check for progress against field patterns. By Low Crag Farm there
        is virtually no footpath marking.

Start from the Barnard Castle, NZ04810 16732.
Head down to the river from the Church in a North Westerly direction,
making for the footbridge over the River Tees at NZ04602 16774.
Cross the River Tees, and when you reach the B6277 road you will see a
footpath sign into the woods almost straight ahead.
Enter Deepdale Woods, and head West keeping the Deepdale Beck on your
        left all the way.
Exit the woods onto a farm track at NZ00456 16239.
Continue West, passing through Low Crag Hill farmyard (with the farm house
on your left) heading for Crag Hill Farm. There are no footpath marks
here, so you must use your map.
Pass through Crag Hill farm yard, and take the farm track North.
Again, using your map to check field patterns, take the footpath that
initially heads North, and then heads East to The Rigg farm.
Pass The Rigg farm (on your right) and continue East until you come to
the disused railway line heading North to Lartington.
Once at Lartington, follow the road East until you come to Lartington
Hall where the footpath North at NZ02046 17724 is indicated by a finger
        post.
Take the footpath past Pecknell farm and Pecknell Wood all the way back
        to Barnard Castle.
