Right up at the top of Gunnerside Gill are the remains of the Blakethwaite Dams,
- used to collect water for the lead mining operations below. The weather by this
time was an object lesson in preparing for hill walking, - having left Gunnerside
in shirt sleeves, full weather gear was now required!
