Just East of Boroughbridge, only 10 minutes walk away, is the
village of Aldborough (Old Borough) where the original crossing of the River
Ure used to be. This cross is the Battle Cross from the Battle of Boroughbridge,
fought in 1322, and moved from Boroughbridge to Aldborough in 1852.
