9.85 miles.
Outdoor Leisure Map No 30, - Yorkshire Dales, Northern &
          Central Areas
This walk is well-proven and well-used.
It is described in several walking guide books, and remains as popular
as ever. The walk takes in mostly farm land, but there are some farm
tracks as well. In wet weather, the route is liable to be quite muddy.
Our route extended the "usual" walk route by about 3 miles.

The walk starts from the car park opposite Bolton
Castle in the village of Bolton Castle.
Instead of taking the SW direction footpath, we took the direct Westerly
path (sign-posted "Askrigg") from Castle Bolton.
At 007908 we took the Southerly path to Carberby, followed by the metalled
        track into the village.
In the centre of Carbery village, there is a footpath heading in a Southerly
direction that takes you across Low Lane and into the National Park centre
        at Aysgarth Falls.
Cross the river by the road bridge and head for Aysgarth Church.
From the Church, there is a footpath across fields, heading in a Westerly
        direction for Aysgarth village.
At the end of Aysgarth village, take the Southerly footpath along a metalled
        track to Aysgarth Mill.
Retrace your steps to Aysgarth village and Aysgarth Falls.
Visit the Middle and Lower Falls, then take the easily found footpath
to Hollins House Farm, High Thoresby Farm, and finally Castle Bolton village.
